Royal Saint-Hubert
The Royal Society Sint-Hubertus, founded in 1882, owes its name to its founders, the hunters, who had choosen this name in honour of the holy Hubertus, the saint of the hunters.
Since its foundation, the K.M.S.H. issued its millionths pedigree in November 2006. The pedigree is an important document that is registered officially. Meanwhile, this document is the birth-certificate and the identity card of a canine. The name and the kennel name of the pup, its breed, date of birth, sex, numbers of sisters and brothers from the same litter, identification code, name of the breeder and the owner, as well as the lineage from the last three generations are mentioned in this document and registered by the K.M.S.H. in its L.O.S.H. pedigree (Livre des Origines / Book of Origins Saint-Hubert) through the number of the specific pedrigee of each dog.
A dog can live without a pedigree but the pedigree is the certificate of its pure breeding. Thus, for the future owner the pedigree is a guarantee for the morphological and psychological references of a pup. Of course, the value of a pedigree is depending on the reliability of the lineage information and on the quality of the issuing office. Our L.O.S.H. pedigree is recognized worldwide in relation to the F.C.I. (Fédération Cynologique Internationale/International Dog-breeding Organisation).
As the only by the F.C.I. recognized Belgian institution, the K.M.S.H. is constantly improving the dog-breeding in Belgium. It is issueing about 20,000 pedigrees every year and is examining the “work” of somewhat 2,500 breeders, fanciers and professionals. It is allowing the organisation of more than 1,000 canine activities by more than 400 clubs all over the country.
What is the advantage of all this for the canine? The motivation and the mentality of the L.O.S.H. breeder as well as the well-considered combination of the parents are the guarantee that the litter will be given the best chance in the physical and psychological sphere. In this case, the socialisation will start as from the date of birth under the best possible conditions. The first weeks with the breeder are also of vital importance for the dog’s future development. The fancier breeders often concentrate on only one breed and therefore they can give their puppies all the attention and time needed until they can go living with their new family, well identificated and vaccinated.
The L.O.S.H. breeder will inform the new owners of the basic guidelines and also he will draw their attention to their responsibilities regarding education and socialisation. A well-bred dog is a pleasure for its family, an ill-bred one in contrary is bothering his family. The education will happen during the first year of the pup’s life, day after day. In case an owner desists from teaching his dog the standards of the complex human environment, that nice puppy will be cursed very soon. Too much dogs are dumped in an animal home once they have reached the age of 7-8 months. Every future owner has to be reminded of the foregoing to avoid that this will happen to his pup.
However, it is not so difficult to raise a canine correctly. How this is feasible? As from the first day of the arrival of the pup one has to start with patience to follow up the breeder’s instructions, to stay in touch with him, to work on the socialisation and the education of his dog under the supervision of experienced instructors in one of the various “dog training centers” owed by the Royal dog-breeding Union Sint-Hubertus. Therefore, a L.O.S.H. pedigree is of much more importance than a piece of paper; it is integrated in the pup’s value, including the allocated quality support.
Since 1882 the main aim of the Royal Society Sint-Hubertus (K.M.S.H.) is to maintain and improve the different dog breeds in Belgium.
