The individual inspection

Each dog will be inspected individually and is registered in a specific group according to the age. The different groups are specified below:

Ø      Baby Class: including all dogs up to the age of 6 months one day before the show.

Ø      Puppy Class: all dogs between 6-9 months old one day before the show.

Ø      Junior Class: all dogs between 9-18 months old one day before the show.

Ø      Intermediary Class: including all dogs between 15-24 months old.

Ø      Open Class: all dogs of at least 15 months old.

Ø      Working Class: all purebred dogs from the age of 15 months onwards which are obliged to pass working tests and have succeeded in that.

Ø      Champion Class: all dogs which hold a champion’s title.

Ø      Veteran Class: all dogs of at least 8 years old without restriction.

Each dog has to meet the standards as much as possible. After examination of the dog’s gaits, the qualified judge assigns one of the below qualifications to each dog:

Ø      Excellent (ideal image of the breed): only in case a dog gets this qualification, he is allowed to continue the rest of the show.

Ø      Very good (close to the standard).

Ø      Good (the dog meets the standard but shows some relatively important weaknesses).

Ø      Insufficient (the dog deviates too much from the standard).

What do the C.A.C. and the C.A.C.I.B. mean?

Both the C.A.C. and the C.A.C.I.B. are very desirable statements for every breeder because they prove the quality of his dogs and the image of his breeding kennel.  These statements are assigned to the best he-dog and the best bitch of every breed.  They are used worldwide at every show within the scope of the Fédération Cynologique Internationale (F.C.I.).

Ø      C.A.C. means Certificate of Aptitude to the National Beauty Contest (Certificat d’Attitude au Championnat National de Beauté).

Ø      C.A.C.I.B. means Certificate of Aptitude to the International Beauty Contest (Certificat d’Attitude au Championnat International de Beauté).

Only the divisions “intermediary”, “open”, “working” and “champion” are taken in consideration for the C.A.C. and C.A.C.I.B. awards.

The conditions for obtaining these certificates are listed below:

Ø      Obtain the qualification “excellent” during the individual examination.

Ø      Hold a Belgian or a foreign pedigree authorized by the F.C.I.

Ø      Having the age of 15 months the day before the show.

In the end, the C.A.C.(I.B.) he-dog and the C.A.C.(I.B.) bitch are competing against each other for the B.O.B. (Best Of Breed) award with the judge of the breed. Only the best of breed continues the competition…

Every evening is a colourful spectacle!

Each evening when all the individual examinations have come to an end and the best dog of each breed has been nominated, the ring of honour is becoming the place of high hopes. Every best of breed (B.O.B.) is going to march with the other B.O.B.’s of the same F.C.I. group in the hope of being nominated as best of the group by the group judge. The award B.O.G. (Best of Group) is already a very important milestone!

In the end, after 2 full days of examinations, there are only 10 group winners left who will march past in the ring of honour on Sunday evening hoping to be finally elected as …. BEST DOG OF THE BRUSSELS DOG SHOW (Best in Show – B.I.S.), photographed by a battery of camera’s. Of course, this mighty spectacle could not be missed under no condition!

During all dog exhibitions also the best couples and best groups are elected every evening besides the individual inspections.

We are the champions!

The qualification “Belgian Beauty Champion” is awarded to a dog in the following cases:

Ø      Obtaining 4 C.A.C.’s with 3 different judges;

Ø      Obtaining 2 C.A.C.’s + working certificate in case the breed is subject to working tests.

The same goes for the qualification “International Beauty Champion” which will be awarded under the following conditions:

Ø      Obtaining 4 C.A.C.I.B.’s with various judges in various countries.

Ø      Obtaining 2 C.A.C.I.B.’s + working certificate in case the breed is subject to a working test.

Can your dear participate in exhibitions for purebred dogs?

In Belgium every purebred dog could be registered for participating in an exhibition under the condition that it holds a pedigree. Every dog with an unknown origin but which is at least 15 months old could also join in an exhibition with the intention to be recorded in the starting register, the “Initial Register of St. Hubert” (Registre Initial Saint-Hubert /R.I.S.H.).

To be listed in the R.I.S.H. it is sufficient that a dog with an unknown origin scores 2 times the qualification very well or excellent with 2 different judges in open division.  Maybe this dog will become the famous ancestor of a future champion with a pedigree of Sint-Hubertus.

Besides the beauty contests also showhandling competition is taking place.

Showhandling consists of evaluating the competencies of young handlers to present their dog in the ring.  Therefore, the dogs are not judged but the capability of its handler.
